昨年10月にアレック・エンパイア主宰のDHRレーベル傘下のガイストレーベルより待望のファースト・アルバムをリリースした浅野達彦。
東京芸術学園卒業の彼は多彩な個展を開く傍ら音楽活動を開始、96年にムードマン主宰の「ドーナッツ」より7インチ盤『bonjour』をリリース。
続けて細野晴臣主宰の「デイジー・ワールド」のV.A.盤や永田一直主宰の「TRANSONIC」のV.A.盤に参加。
また数多くのゲームソフトやCD-ROMソフト等の音楽や効果音を手掛けており、00年にはニンテンドウ64DDのゲームソフト『巨人のドシン1』のサウンド・トラック盤のリリースを大きな話題を呼んだ。本作は長年待ち望まれていた初のフル・アルバムであり、彼のそれまでの音楽キャリアを総括するベスト盤的内容！

Tatsuhiko Asano's album arrives courtesy of a serendipitous moment in the obscure world of cult Tokyo record shops. Alec Empire was making one of his regular visits to Los Aspos, (a small record store housed on the sixth floor of an anonymous residential block and taking up the entire single room and kitchen apartment). While he was sifting through the records the owner put on Asano's "Bonjour" 7". Empire knew then and there that he wanted to get the track (and its equally compelling B-Side, "Lemonade") out to a wider audience but realised it would hardly fit in with DHR's aggressive approach. It was then that the idea for the new label Geist was born. This was in 1996.
It took two years just to track Tatsuhiko down and commence discussions. When Alec eventually proposed an album Tatsuhiko explained how meticulous he was and that it might take a whileﾉ. Five years down the line and Tatsuhiko Asano's album is finally ready for release.
His musical history saw him first picking up his father's guitar at the age of 14 and then learning percussion skills by playing with a brass band. There followed a quickly abandoned attempt to save money for a synthesiser by catching shellfish in the local swamp before reverting to guitar as his principle instrument. He has composed music for Nintendo's "Doshin The Giant" game which appeared on an album in Japan and released various tracks for Japanese labels such as Transonic, Synergy INC and NEC Avenue.
"Genny Haniver" is his first internationally-released collection and encapsulates the tender synth. and guitar style that first captured Alec's attention. The background electronics build up sophisticated rhythms while his intricate guitar picks out bittersweet melodies. Asano cites his influences as acts as broadly differentiated as Can's Holger Czukay and Public Image Ltd. to soundtracks by Ennio Morricone and Jack Nitzshe plus the themes from legendary sixties and seventies Japanese TV shows like "Rocky Chack," "Kamui Gaiden" and "Lupin the 3rd."
The great quality of this work is Asano's unifying of so many disparate elements into a unique whole. This is a rare achievement and evidence of real talent. Asano's fusion is a layered masterpiece.
